What is daylight saving time?

DST is the practice of advancing clocks so that evenings have more daylight and mornings have less. In this method,clocks are adjusted forward one hour near the start of spring and are adjusted backward in autumn.

DST is followed in many countries to make better use of the daylight in the evenings.

For Countries near the equator,the day and night length will be same(12 hours+12 hours).For example,In India day and night is equal so there is no DST time.The Countries closer to the North and South Pole will be having the longer period of daylight in the summer.To utilize the day light ,DST is followed in many countries according to their locations.image-wikipedia

In short,DST is setting the clocks forward one hour during the longer days of summer and back again in the fall.

This year,on March 10,2013,sunday - clocks are set ahead one hour(spring forward).
On Nov 3,2013,Sunday -  clocks are set back one hour ( Fall Back).

Daylight Savings Time begins on the second Sunday of March and ends on the first Sunday of November.  In March, clocks are moved forward one hour from 2 Am standard time to 3 Am DST, and in November, clocks are moved back one hour from 2 Am DST to 1 Am standard time.  The phrase "spring forward, fall back" is used to remember DST timings.

Benjamin Franklin was the first person to suggest the concept of daylight savings in 1784 with an idea of "early to bed and early to rise".The modern idea of daylight saving was first proposed in 1895 by George Vernon Hudson  and it was first implemented during the First World War.

There is a conflicted view about DST.Some researchers states DST as energy saver and some are against.
Same way,some researchers states,DST not good for health.It causes health hazards because of  improper sleep patterns.In a conflicting view,others states it increases outdoor activities and claims DST is beneficial for health.
